Background
Dr. Likus was raised in Fort Myers, Florida, but proudly calls Buffalo, NY, home. With most of his family still residing there, many vacations spent up north, and a formative gap year living in Buffalo between undergrad and optometry school, it’s where his heart—and his sense of home is.
His interest in the medical field began in high school through involvement in pre-medical clubs. While in college, a guest lecture series introduced him to various healthcare professions. It was an optometrist’s engaging and enthusiastic presentation that sparked his curiosity. After shadowing and networking within the field, he found optometry to be the perfect match for his goals.
A principle his professors at the Kentucky College of Optometry instilled in him was that the patient will tell you what is wrong nearly every time. He found how important it is to take the time and listen during the exam and work with the patient to form a solution together.
Starting in his second year, he actively sought out opportunities to grow his skills in pediatric care—experiences that remain among the most rewarding of his career.
Dr. Likus strives to live a well-rounded life, constantly exploring different hobbies to keep things fresh and engaging. Outside of work you can find him cooking new recipes, tending to his aquariums and houseplants, playing games with friends and family, or relaxing in a hammock with a good book.
