Our Practice

Vistar Eye Center is southwestern Virginia's largest eye care practice. Our subspecialties include glaucoma, corneal diseases, plastic and reconstructive surgery, pediatric exams and surgery, cataract implant surgery, refractive surgery, and diseases of the retina and vitreous. Vistar Eye Center physicians practice in several locations in Roanoke, Salem, Botetourt, Wytheville, Smith Mountain Lake, Blacksburg and Martinsville as well as multiple satellite offices throughout southwestern Virginia.

Ophthalmic Medical Scribe

As an Ophthalmic Scribe, you will be at the forefront of cutting-edge technology, working alongside talented professionals to provide top-notch specialty eye care to our valued patients.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, has outstanding communication skills, and is passionate about delivering exceptional customer service. An ophthalmic scribe assists ophthalmologists by documenting patient encounters, including medical histories, examination findings, and treatment plans, using electronic health record (EHR) systems. They ensure accurate and detailed records, facilitate communication within the healthcare team, and help maintain compliance with regulatory standards. By doing so, they enable ophthalmologists to focus on delivering high-quality eye care.

  • A true passion for eye care and improving patients’ quality of life.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to connect with patients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions meticulously.
  • Proficient technical skills to operate ophthalmic equipment and perform diagnostic tests.
  • Exceptional organizational skills to manage patient records and maintain efficient workflows.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a calm and empathetic demeanor.
  • Full range of body motion including the ability to assist patients with wheelchairs, lightly assist patients using walkers or canes and those in stretchers.
  • Although we prefer experienced medical assistants, we will gladly train an inexperienced teammate with the skillset and attributes that we value.

Our Patient Service Specialists play a pivotal role in creating an inviting and warm atmosphere where individuals feel genuinely cared for from the moment they enter the door.  At Vistar Eye Center our patient service specialists are the first point of contact and the welcoming face that provides exceptional care for our patients.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate is organized, compassionate, has outstanding communication skills, and is passionate about delivering exceptional customer service.  Patient Service specialists assist with scheduling, appointment check-in and check-out, insurance verification, and communications between internal and external stakeholders.

Ophthalmic Medical Assistant

As an Ophthalmic Medical Assistant, you will have the opportunity to be at the forefront of cutting-edge technology, working alongside talented professionals to provide top-notch specialty eye care to our valued patients.

Ophthalmic Medical Assistants provide invaluable support to our doctors by assisting with routine eye exams and minor surgical procedures.  They act as the initial point of contact for the patient exam by gathering relevant medical information, performing various diagnostic test and procedures, and assisting the doctors during patient examination.  Ophthalmic Medical assistants will also communicate and coordinate patient care elements internally and externally.
