Education

Dr. Scott A. Strelow is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology to provide comprehensive ophthalmologic care with a focus on cataract surgery, corneal transplants, and external diseases. Strelow completed his Doctorate of Medicine at Vanderbilt University in 1986. After an internship at Vanderbilt and a residency at the University of Florida College of Medicine, he also completed a fellowship for corneal surgery and external diseases at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He then served in the military at the USAF Medical Center as Chief of Cornea Service at the Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.

Background

Dr. Strelow first recognized his passion for ophthalmology in medical school during an active duty rotation in Air Force medicine. He enjoyed the variety he found in the mix of medicine and surgery and liked the idea of being able to treat people of all ages. Vision is precious and working to preserve what is so important to all of us continues to challenge and excite him today.

“I love what I do and love waking up every morning to come to work.”

His approach to patient care is focused on listening:

“Every patient deserves my full attention. I never want to waste their time. Once I establish why the patient is there, and outline the options for treatment, I like to spend the bulk of the time listening carefully and making sure all of their questions have been answered.”

Outside of Work

Dr. Strelow is married and has three grown sons and two granddaughters. He enjoys any activity that gets him outside with his family. He is particularly fond of hiking, golf, skiing, and scuba-diving.
