Christiansburg Lions Visit Eyeglass Recycling Center

Tuesday, June 02, 2015

If you wear glasses, chances are you have an old pair or two lying around. They’re too nice to just throw away, but your prescription has changed, and you can’t wear them anymore.

That’s where the Lions Club comes in. Each year, the group collects up to 300,000 pairs of eyeglasses from people all over the Roanoke-New River Valley area. The glasses go to aid people who suffer from nearsightedness, astigmatism, and other conditions that affect sight.

Annually, the Club takes the glasses to the Eyeglass Recycling Center in Roanoke, where the glasses are cleaned and inspected before being shipped out to facilities around the country.

To donate your used eyeglasses or to find out how you can volunteer, contact the Virginia Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center at (540) 345-8823.
